Year Six Tag Rugby

Year Six enjoyed their first Tag Rugby session this afternoon. William from London Scottish Rugby Club came along to lead a training session.

London Scottish

After a quick warm up game, Year Six quickly got organised in to teams and played a (very) mini tournament. We’re looking forward to our next Tag Rugby session next week.

Year Six Dissect Flowers!

Year Six were in full swing with their science today when we were looking at the different parts of the flower.

We started off by comparing two flowers: the lily and the passion flower. We then went on to find the stamen, stigma and other key parts of the flower and discussed their functions.

Once we were confident we knew the different parts we started to seperate the bits out to stick in our books.

Nina has stuck in and labelled the parts correctly, do you know what each part does? Post a comment saying what the funtion of each part is – there’s a house point for each FIRST correct asnwer! (Don’t forget to put your name beside the comment so we know who you are!)

Our first Ham House Art’s Week Day!

Wow what a day we have just had! The whole of Meadlands went off to Ham House for day in preparation for our Art’s Week.

Every class went along and did some sketching of the house and its grounds.

This is some of the sketching done by Jesse in year six. Can you spot which is the front and which is the rear of the house?

Look at all of the detail!

Year six’s car/van/bus making week

Last week year six had an exellent time making  different types of  transport  from basic cars to turtles, boots and doule decker buses in D.T.

The week began in the D.T room on Monday , year six were fully prepared as the had  all the planning  and desighning done the week before .The week started very simply, year six started with only four pieces of wood that they had sawed  themselves , then joined them at each corner with P.V.A glue .(the wood obsorbs the glue,  making it stick quicker ) then we had our frame.

The following day (Tuesday) year six had to take the next step, the motor, wheels and battries. To make the vehicle move year six had to get the motor running. We done this  by sticking 3 to 6 lollie sticks agian with P.V.A.glue  , then the motor was ready to stick on.This is what the finished results looked like .

Check out these wheels!

The Finalised Cast List

Okay. Well it was a really tough meeting after school; Ms Carrel, Ms Day and myself were in the meeting for over an hour trying to sort out who got what parts. It was extremely difficult and some parts have been changed now that we know who is doing what.

I will make some notes at the bottom of this post to explain how some parts have been adapted. Again before we get on to the parts, I just want to say a big well done.

_______________________________________

You’ll see that there are two Sea Rats, we’re going to split the part and song between Sophie May and Nina.

Woldy, although in your script you’re only singing a small part of the song – we’re going to make it so that you are singing a large chunk of the chorus parts solo to the audience (as though you were talking/singing to them)

If you are in the Wildwooders you are on stage a lot! You are singing and acting as a group in Life on The Riverbank, On The Riverbank Reprise, Who’s there, Scene 5 (page 23), Stoat Patrol. Although it may be only one or two of you talking at a time, you will all be on stage acting at the same time.

Riverbankers, you will also be involved everytime there is a Riverbanker on stage.

I’m sure you will have lots of questions, I’ll try my best to answer them over the weekend if you post them.

Don’t forget it is extremely important that you begin to learn your lines now - especially if you have a lot of words to learn.

Words to Life on the Open Road

As requested by some year sixes, here are the words to ‘Life on the open road’. I would like to point out that the words are also in your scripts!

Rolling down the dusty highway.

A-rolling down the Rolling Downs

Any way of yours is my way,

As long as we go out of town,

Every day the sun is rising,

On a brand new episode,

Here today and gone tomorrow,

That’s the Life on the Open Road…

Our second go at a Podcast

Woldy and Johann have had another go at making a podcast – this time all by themselves. They used mp3 recorders and Garage Band on the iBooks to make it.

This time they are interviewing other children about Healthy Heart week. Listen here:

The Year Six Show auditions

This year our summer show is The Wind In The Willows.

On Friday we are holding the singing auditions for year six. Ms Carrel, Ms Day and myself will be listening to the angelic voices of the year six class – we can’t wait to hear them (we promise there will be no buzzers like on Britains got talent!).

Year six children will be auditioning either by themselves, in twos or in threes.

They will be singing a part of the song from the show Life on the Open Road.

If you are auditioning you can listen and practise the song here:
